Best Free AI Image Generators in 2026 for Korea, Japan & China

We compare 8 free AI image generators as of October 2026: daily free quota, Korean/Japanese/Chinese prompt support, payment currency and commercial-use terms.

The short answer: as of October 2026, if you write prompts in Korean, Japanese or Chinese and want a generous daily free quota, Pickshot, Bing Image Creator and Google Gemini are the easiest places to start. If you also need video, Dreamina and Mage.space are stronger, and if top-tier image quality matters more than price, paid Midjourney is still the benchmark. Below we compare eight tools on free quota, native-language prompt support, UI languages, payment currency, content policy and commercial-use terms, with a note on the China-specific tools many mainland users rely on.

All competitor facts are stated as of October 2026 and sourced at the end. Where we could not verify something, we say "not publicly stated" rather than guess.

What is each free AI image generator best for?

Pickshot: native Korean, Japanese and Chinese prompts with Asian style presets

Pickshot launched in October 2026 as an Asia-first image generator for creators in Korea, Japan and China. You can type prompts in Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese or English; non-English prompts are auto-translated into English before reaching the model. A "Prompt magic" button expands a short idea into a detailed scene description.

  • Free limits: Without an account you get 8 images per day on free models. A free account raises that to 100 images per day, plus 50 credits on sign-up and a 10-credit daily bonus. Quotas reset at 00:00 KST/JST (UTC+9).
  • Models: Four free models (FLUX.2 Klein 4B, FLUX.1 Schnell, SDXL Lightning and DreamShaper 8) and credit-based options including FLUX.2 Klein 9B, FLUX.2 Dev, and Leonardo.Ai's Phoenix 1.0 and Lucid Origin. See the full list on the models page.
  • Best for: Korean webtoon, K-beauty editorial, K-pop photocard, Chinese guofeng, ukiyo-e, sumi-e ink, 1990s Hong Kong film and 11 other presets, with aspect ratios mapped to Instagram, Xiaohongshu, KakaoTalk, LINE, Reels/Douyin and YouTube/Bilibili. The Characters feature keeps the same face, hair and outfit across new scenes from 1–3 reference images.
  • Caveats: No video generation yet (waitlist only). Output is about 1 megapixel (for example 1024×1024). There is no mobile app, though mobile web works. Paid checkout is not open; prices are listed on the pricing page and waitlist members get 50% off the first month. Sexual content is blocked before generation. As a newly launched service, it has a much shorter track record than the established tools below.

Bing Image Creator: the easiest completely free option

Bing Image Creator (now part of Microsoft Designer) is free with a Microsoft account. According to its official FAQ, as of October 2026 you get 15 fast creations per day, after which you can keep generating at standard speed, and it supports over 100 languages. The FAQ does not address commercial use, and Microsoft Designer's terms of use describe the service as for personal use, so check the terms before using images for business.

Google Gemini: edit images by talking to them

As of October 2026, the Gemini app lets users without a paid plan generate images with Nano Banana 2, and it supports Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Google's help page does not give a fixed daily image number for free users and notes that limits can change. Redoing images with Nano Banana Pro requires a paid plan. Note that Google lists mainland China as "Workspace only," so most individual users there cannot use it directly.

Dreamina: free daily credits plus video

Dreamina is ByteDance's CapCut-branded creative suite. Its own guide states a published baseline of 120 free credits per day as of August 2026, and tells users to confirm the current allowance in their account. Image (Seedream) and video (Seedance) generation share one workspace, which is its main advantage over image-only tools. Credit cost varies by model, resolution and feature, and commercial use is allowed subject to its terms and plan or model conditions.

Leonardo.Ai: a rich toolset, but public free images

Leonardo.Ai's help center states that free users receive 150 tokens a day, reset every 24 hours with no rollover. Its commercial-usage article says the platform can be used for personal and commercial purposes, but free-plan generations are publicly viewable for other users to copy and remix. Paid plans are billed in USD and, per third-party pricing roundups, start at about $12 per month.

Mage.space: still the stronger choice if you need video

Mage.space is operated by Ollano, Inc. in New York. As of October 2026 its Free plan gives 300 Gems once, and paid plans run from Basic at $10/month to Max at $200/month, billed in USD via Stripe with generally no refunds. Its strengths are real: a strong video lineup, a mix of self-hosted open models and lab APIs (GPT Image, Grok, Nano Banana), and a permissive content policy with a Mature Mode toggle. The trade-offs for Asian users are an English-only UI, USD-only billing and no mobile app. We cover the differences in detail in our Mage.space alternative comparison.

Ideogram: English typography

Ideogram's documentation states that free accounts get 30 credits each week when signing in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, and that everything generated on the free plan is public. Its text-rendering page says it supports English and other Latin-script languages, with more scripts "expanding," so Hangul, kana and Chinese characters are not on the officially supported list. Paid plans are Plus at $20/month and Pro at $60/month.

Midjourney: no free plan, but still the quality benchmark

As of October 2026, Midjourney offers no free plan on the web. Plans are Basic ($10/month), Standard ($30), Pro ($60) and Mega ($120). Its terms require companies with more than $1M in annual gross revenue to use Pro or Mega. Third-party reports say the anime-focused niji・journey mobile app has offered a limited trial for new users, but we could not confirm the current terms on an official page. For pure aesthetics, many users still rank it first.

What about China-specific tools like Jimeng, Tongyi Wanxiang and Liblib?

Mainland users often rely on domestic platforms, which bill in RMB and are built around Chinese prompts:

  • Jimeng (即梦, ByteDance): The official site says it supports creating from Chinese prompts with better semantic understanding. Its App Store listing shows memberships at ¥69/month and ¥659/year (RMB). It offers free daily credits, but the exact amount is not publicly stated on its official pages.
  • Tongyi Wanxiang (通义万相, Alibaba): Covers text-to-image, image editing and video. Uses an "inspiration points" system; a third-party report cites 50 points per daily check-in, but no fixed number is published on the official page.
  • LiblibAI (哩布哩布): A Beijing-based platform known for a large library of community models and online training. It offers free daily compute; per a third-party listing, image memberships start at ¥36/month.

We cover these in more depth in the Chinese edition of this article. Note that access to overseas services from mainland China can vary by network, so test before committing to any foreign tool, Pickshot included.

How should you choose a free AI image generator?

Start from what you will actually make:

  • Lots of daily images in Korean, Japanese or Chinese: Pickshot (100 free images per day on a free account) or Bing Image Creator (free, 100+ languages). Our native-language prompt guide explains how to write prompts that translate well.
  • Webtoon, anime, guofeng or K-pop styles with a consistent character: Pickshot's presets and Characters feature, or SeaArt if you want to browse community models (SeaArt's free daily allowance is reported inconsistently, so check its site).
  • Editing an existing photo through conversation: Google Gemini, outside mainland China.
  • Short video as well as images: Dreamina or Mage.space. Pickshot does not generate video yet.
  • English text on posters or logos: Ideogram.
  • Highest quality and you are willing to pay: Midjourney.
  • Mainland China, RMB billing: Jimeng, Tongyi Wanxiang or LiblibAI.
  • Client work or private drafts: avoid free tiers that publish your images (Leonardo.Ai, Ideogram) and choose a service that keeps images private by default, or a paid plan.

Whichever tool you pick, label AI-generated images according to each platform's rules, and re-read the current terms before commercial use, since free quotas and licenses change often.
